This is the Polestar 1!
It’s been a long-time coming, but Mat’s finally got his hands on the first car produced by Volvo’s performance division since they’ve gone it alone!
When it comes to the looks, there’s no denying that the Polestar 1 is a gorgeous set of wheels. Not only that, but you’ll also be doing your bit for the environment if you invest in one of these, as it’s a plug-in hybrid that can drive for 77 miles on electric power alone – the most of any PHEV available today!
But just because it’s a hybrid doesn’t mean it’s down on power, as under the bonnet you’ll find a 2-litre supercharged engine which, along with two electric motors, can deliver 609hp and an amazing 1000Nm!
Sadly, there’s one downside… It costs £139,000!!! So, is it worth it? You’ll have to keep watching to find out!

It's just a Volvo. In Finland we have always joked about VOLVO by letters in its name in Finnish: "Valitamme Ostosta Lähetämme VaraOsia" meaning We regret/are sorry about your purchase and will send spare parts.
We actually have lots of similar letter based "nick names" for cars:
BMW = Baader-Meinhof Wagen (former terrorist organization from Germany, officially known as Rote Armee Fraktion, if someone didn't know + car. They actually even used to drive BMW cars…) (Do Germans themselves by the way use this wonderful nick name for BMW?)
BMW = Baijerilainen Munan Wenytin = Penis enlargement pump from Bavaria
FORD =Fix or repair daily (such a international wibe with nick name in English…LOL)
KIA = Köyhien Ihmisten Auto = car for poor people
KIA = Kuulaiden ihmisten Auto = car for bald people
Opel = Olen Pilannut Elämäni Lopullisesti = I have ruined my life for ever
Opel = Onnellisen Pojan Ensi Lelu = First toy for happy boy
Skoda = Skeida = shit (not truly by letters, but Finnish metaphor with twisted/witty meaning is well established in daily life for the car make)
Toyota = Toi ota (jos et muuta saa) = Take that (if you can't get anything else)
Volkswagen = Hitlerwagen (not truly by letters but anyway)

What hurts even more is that the 2021 Model 3 Performance that you just reviewed costs more half this and hits 60 in 3.2 seconds… and does silent donuts

I do love the shape and curves of this car. The price, performance, etc is disappointing. I was also disappointed by the rather typical Volvo interior. Matt is absolutely right though, it would be far better as an Audi A5 priced competitor without the carbon fiber, hybrid, etc.

I have driven this car. It's an S60 with better performance. It looks good but it definitely doesn't feel like a 140K car. More like 70-80K. It's also very impractical with the rear seats taking forever to access and the boot being small.

Volvo has Volvo… I mean Polestar

Yeah! Just turn this Polestar into a regular Volvo 2 or 4wd with or without a hybrid version, and a best-seller is born. Less than half the price and all of the appeal.
Exclusive it is, but from an engineering and commercial perspective, not a good move at all.

I wanted to watch because of the cars color in the thumbnail. It's not even close to that color in the video. Disappointing.

You’ve got to be a huge mug to buy this monstrosity.
I feel like this would have been a niche car even at half the price. At this current price it is pretty much a concept car. Who the hell is going to buy it over almost anything available in the price range? I think it is beautiful though. It has a bit of an American muscle car look going on but pulls it off without looking like you are on your way to a dragrace.

One of the best looking cars at the moment! To bad they made it drive crappy with an insane price tag. Agree they should just make a T4/T5/T6 AWD version from this, so more people can enjoy the beautifull lines of this car
German specifications: most cars can do (much) better, understate.
