How’s this for a hot hatch drag race line-up! Mat’s sat in the carwow Car of the Year 2021, the Toyota GR Yaris, and it’s going up against the MINI GP!
First up we have the GR Yaris, which is powered by a 1.6-litre 3 cylinder turbo engine to deliver 261hp 360Nm. As for the MINI GP? Well, it’s up on power, with a 2-litre 4 cylinder engine providing 306hp and 450Nm of torque!
However, power isn’t everything! The track’s pretty wet, and while the MINI is only front-wheel-drive, the GR Yaris is all-wheel-drive! Will that be enough to push Mat through to victory? Or will the manual gearbox in the Toyota ultimately lose out to the automatic MINI?
There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE!

I still prefer the Mini, Toyota is the Pakistani dream car.. good for uber only
Please review Ssangyong. I beg you.
Mini in Eco/Normal mode for everything. No pops or speed without being in Sport/GP mode.
Well IMHO try any mountain path and the GR shall not even see the mini head light. Yep mini no even gonna smell the GR sweet exhaust.
Seems the Yaris isn’t all that , be interested to see how it fairs against the mini round a track , maybe something you could look into instead of just drag racing . How a car handles round a track us more important than a drag race

Still yaris for me. Would slaughter mini round twistys'
Yaris is faster around the streets though with that take off, would be fun
if it cost more than a WRX then its not worth buying.
Shows the difference between awesome auto and mediocre manual
1:23 MINI
Mat Watson reminds me of ken miles
1:23
1:90
yaris what a useless car
Atleast its a perfect rally car
Meanwhile the 2004 Dodge Neon SRT4 had 2.4 ,4 cyl turbo, with 230 Hp and 5 gear manual. It weighted 1300kg and could do 0-60 mph in 5,3 sec. And all of this only via FWD. Now that is something even today when u compare it to totally new GR yaris with more power, 4WD…
Can we get a track race next
Matt, you shift like a lady
Mini ! Mini !
Yer but the mini is shit. And no one wants to drive that crap.
Probably the only video that made me immediately head over to the local Toyota website to find out it costs £30k for the basic model and £33.5k for the circuit pack…….. Damn that's a hard price to justify. And I used to have a Lupo GTi which this feels a like a decent modern successor.
Toyota should stick in building ordinary practical cars .. they suck big time in sport cars
F*ck Toyota
I don't think the drag race justified the Toyota it was designed with rally performance in mind
Can you do a Drag race Fiat panda plz
I'm guessing the Yaris has a longer final gear ratio or something because the way that Mini came back at the end seems like even a dual clutch wouldn't make THAT much difference.
I'm guessing the Mini was geared to scream to 90mph and then just give up.
I'd still rather have the Yaris, it just looks SO much better than the small BMW.
Ok ok, I might be a little biased, since I already had an XP90 (1.3 Luna), currently have an XP130 (1.33 Delight, 1.st facelift) and have an XP210 H4 in order…
Usually good automatic would beat a good manual on straights
